During this month we make the best use of our energies by allowing an organic winnowing to occur.

Instinctively we know we need it..the need to loosen the noose of noise and agitation is insistent.

Everyone knows that life at any juncture is effortful…but electing to cast away the tumult is a bracing undertaking, necessary but not for the faint of heart!

In our bones we grasp that a body can’t continue to function at full tilt all the time so there is a need for a voluntary culling; an acknowledgment that when we pair down, our endeavors automagically feel more authentic. As we aim for a certain purity of effort , we strengthen ourselves, prepping our muscles, metaphorical and physical, for what the next season will bring us.

In context, August, a Nine month, presents scenarios that implore us to evolve in preparation to move from one chapter to the next. We’re all familiar now with how this past year has served up new things, new situations and opportunities, along with novel problems, …and plethora of unfamiliar scenarios.

That is it’s function, it’s the switch-things-up-cycle. August’s energy gives us new fuel for the fire, a revised vision, a fresh course, a groundbreaking plan…along with a bevy of pain points. We as humans are presented with options with the knowledge that each and every plan with its attendant burrs and thorns cannot be pursued with equal vigor. So, choices…which path works for us?

August says…having a choice is a grace, a sacrament not always afforded, so strike now, for the iron is hot. Believe it or not, when we step into the harvest month (at least for us in the northern hemisphere), a certain reckoning with fate will be self-evident. With the time we have now we’d best gather ourselves to the task of fashioning life in the manner we choose given the choices we currently have, before we’re faced with the consequences of NOT choosing.

Several Astrological events will support this theme of winnowing this month, specifically, two eclipses, showcasing the beginning of a period where the communication planet Mercury goes retrograde, then moves toward the heart of the sun in an effort to shake off the collected life debris. This journey plunges us deep into ideas, philosophies, theories. We hope at the finish we emerge clearer, *clarified*, we hope!

Technical jargon aside the point is this… the symphony of heavenly movements puts us in harmony with the shifting seasons by revealing that which was hidden from us (in the case of the eclipses) or by reviewing and reworking the turmoil of the recent weeks and months (the retrograde and the union and triumphant movement of the inner and outer planets ).

As we move naturally toward fall, find the words to the songs you’ve struggled all summer to write or recall. Hum it now, with full throated devotion.

And remember…August was the furnace, September is the doorway, October will be the new territory.
