This month, September 2026, like all Septembers, we’re in the heart of action. Numerologically, any September is the distillation of the year…it is always the most concentrated energetic pattern universally experienced during any 12 month Calendar period. This is our threshold moment, which doesn’t necessarily mean that everything is wrapped up perfectly when we cross the threshold. Like a pregnant woman who transforms at the moment her baby is born, a frenetic metamorphosis is before us, like it or not.

September is a NINE UNIVERSAL MONTH in a ONE UNIVERSAL YEAR.

One is the new beginning, the inception, the first step. As the lyric from the song Closing Time (YouTube link plays after an ad) aptly says “Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end” inspired by the impending birth of the songwriter’s first child.

It’s like starting over, with a fair bit of experience, again.

What does starting over, at any juncture of life feel like?

Some words that echo that sentiment: Crawling, falling, tottering, stopping, launching, breaking out, but always, always trying.

This is a month of trying. Of accepting our inevitable failures and iffy beginnings. Of realizing that our tastes outshine the technical skill necessary to achieve our goals, in the present moment (but watch what happens when we *practice* ).  A ONE month  is a time to get on comfortable with possibly falling off the horse, and then getting up off the ground and getting back on.

We humans, with our century long lifespans, have a habit of calling certain out-of- the-box-things, unprecedented.  But outside of new tech, it turns out a shocking number of things actually have happened before (i.e. desire, friendship, rivalry, despair, climate change, innovation, and coming of age, to name a few).  Yes, we KNOW our collective past has a backstory.

It’s just that history is often a murky place to visit. Not just “anyone”, as Elizabeth Letts says “can get a visa to the vast country that is the past”.  When we step through our doorways, we then have to work at locate ourselves in time and space. In September, give your eyes time to adjust to the shift in light.

The Astrology of September confirms our need to get forward facing:

No less than four planets change signs and when there is a stampede for the exits, it’s a good idea to pay attention:

Venus moves into Scorpio shifting our attention from surface interactions toward energetics that defy conventional expression. We feel deeply, fed by memories of old wounds. And oft times, the shadows of the past propel us foward…making it difficult to contain desire.

With it, Mercury moves to Libra, a place where our drive to communicate with each other, though gracious and diplomatic, should not to be silenced. Echoing Venus’s new candor, authenticity is the goal. (And Mercury’s move to Scorpio at the end of the month magnifies Venus’s refusal to deny our most passionate selves. Taboo takes a seat at the table.

Finally as Mars moves into Leo, we learn to take pride in our emo risks. Our bravery and candor is rewarded with a poignancy not possible without the gamble of revealing our true colors, a new territory

This my friends is where *ritual*, comes in. Note, in this sense, ritual is merely another word for practice.

Get into the habit or practice of questioning* the things you are habituated to:

  • Think…what happens if I change? What happens if I don’t?
  • What options die on the vine if I don’t make change?
  • What’s a familiar internal narrative of mine that no longer holds water?
  • Who am I blaming for keeping things static?
  • What old pain am I willing to face or not?

By examining your inner material, you prepare for October, the new territory.
